Every row is a verbatim sentence read from the named source's own page through our fetch service on the date shown, hash-pinned to the stored read (the sha of the page's visible text; the raw page is mirrored to R2).
3 of the 11 named sources that could be read published a usable figure; 8 published none and are recorded as not published, never filled in; 0 could not be read (blocked, dead or unreachable) and count nowhere.
The headline figures (median, minimum, maximum, quartiles) are over ONE figure per source for each breakdown it prices, in % (a source's median where its page yielded several accepted sentences for one breakdown), so a page that gives figures for several breakdowns gives one for each and N counts 20 figures, never sentences; 40 candidate sentence(s) were refused by a reviewer with the reason recorded.
The fuller derivation this dataset is chartered to grow into (not yet what the figures above are; they are each source's own published figure as read): the register as a dated series rather than a snapshot: total register size, effective register size, incorporations and dissolutions per financial year from Companies House's own statistical releases, joined to HMRC's count of companies with a corporation tax liability and to total CT receipts, so 'how many companies' and 'how many that actually trade' are two different, sourced numbers.
The reads already carry three consecutive years - 5,350,759 at end-FYE2024, 5,427,787 at end-FYE2025 (+1.4%) and 5,479,045 at end-FYE2026 (+0.94%), with an effective register of 4,930,634 and 815,277 incorporations in FYE2026 - which is a growth-rate series nobody publishes as one line.
The derived figure the site owes its biggest non-calculator cluster is the DORMANT share: the gap between the register and the companies HMRC treats as trading, read per year, which is what 'what is a dormant company' is really asking around
40 candidate sentences on these pages were refused by a reviewer; each refusal and its reason is recorded in the review ledger.
